The presence of naturally occurring radionuclides in deep water can lead to the formation of radioactive deposits (NORM) in the surface system. With the help of a suitable monitoring strategy, the migration behavior of the natural radionuclides and their potential accumulation within the surface system can be recorded. This knowledge enables the plant operator to recognize the precipitation potential and thus a possible radiation exposure at an early stage and to initiate appropriate countermeasures.
